Taiwan Tech and Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences Ink Agreement on Double Degree Program in Data Science [21 Feb 2023

p[Feb 21, 2023] Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA), Germany, and Taiwan Tech (NTUST) have launched a Double Degree Master’s Program in Data Science. The agreement was signed by Prof. Angelika Altmann-Dieses, Vice-President of Hochschule Karlsruhe, and Prof. Jhy-Chern Liu, Vice-President of Taiwan Tech, in a ceremony attended by a 7-member strong visiting delegation from Karlsruhe, and by members of the NTUST Departments of Information Management and Electrical Engineering, and the Office of International Affairs.

The signing of the Double Degree Program in Data Science is an important milestone in the relationship between HKA and NTUST. Originally planned three years ago, it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is a reflection of the growing importance of data science in today's world. It aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to succeed in this rapidly growing field. The program, offered by the Taiwan Tech Department of Information Management and the HKA, Faculty of Computer Science and Business Information Systems, will give students the opportunity to obtain two degrees, one from HKA and the other from NTUST. Students will have the opportunity to study at both universities in the second year of their master’s program and write a jointly supervised thesis. Industry internships will also be part of the program. The first intake of students for the new Double Degree program is planned for the autumn semester 2023.

The two universities also explored cooperation possibilities in the field of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), which has become increasingly relevant in the current global context. In addition, the universities discussed future HAWtech-TAItech activities.The HAWtech-TAItech alliance is a cooperation agreement between several universities of applied sciences (HAW) in Germany and Taiwan. The main aim of the alliance is to promote international exchange and cooperation in the areas of teaching, research, and innovation.
