69 Taiwan Tech Scholars ranked among World’s Top 2% Scientists - Construction ranks first in Taiwan, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, and Industrial Automation rank second.[ 3 Oct. 2025]
Stanford University has released its 2025 list of the “World’s Top 2% Scientists.” A total of 69 scholars from Taiwan Tech made the list - including 54 professors in the Career-long Scientific Impact (1960–2024) ranking and 44 professors in the Annual Scientific Impact ranking, with 27 appearing on both lists. Taiwan Tech ranks first among Taiwan’s technical and vocational universities and sixth nationwide, showcasing its outstanding research excellence and global influence.

Stanford University has announced the 2025 list of the “World’s Top 2% Scientists,” with 69 scholars from Taiwan Tech making the list - ranking first among Taiwan’s technical and vocational universities and sixth nationwide.
Taiwan Tech achieved the highest number of selections in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Networking and Telecommunications, followed by Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Energy, and Materials. This year, 8 professors and 10 professors were newly listed in the Career-long and Annual Impact rankings respectively, showing taiwan Tech ’s growing presence across emerging disciplines and its continuously expanding research landscape.
Chair Professor Jui-Sheng Chou from the Department of Civil and Construction Engineering once again ranked No. 1 in Taiwan in the field of Architecture and Construction. He placed 62nd globally in the Career-long Impact Ranking and rose to 46th in the Annual Impact Ranking, moving up four places from last year. His research covers project management, data mining, AI and bionic computation, and sustainable engineering decision analysis. Professor Chou has long dedicated himself to applying data science and artificial intelligence to civil, hydraulic, and construction engineering, making significant contributions to both academia and industry.
Distinguished Professor Rong-Jong Wai from the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering also delivered outstanding results, ranking first in Taiwan and 25th globally in the Career-long Impact Ranking for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and second nationally in the Annual Impact Ranking. His research focuses on power electronics, mechatronic integration, and energy technologies. In recent years, he has actively promoted sustainability and low-carbon smart solutions, serving as a consultant for the Ministry of Education’s solar power advisory project and collaborating with the Hsinchu Science Park and major enterprises to help industries reduce carbon emissions and accelerate transformation.
Honorary Chair Professor Toyoko Imae from the Graduate Institute of Applied Science and Technology also achieved outstanding recognition in the field of Chemical Physics, ranking second in Taiwan in the Career-long Impact Ranking and third in the Annual Impact Ranking. Her Nanoarchitectonics and Nanotechnology Laboratory focuses on developing advanced hybrid and composite nanomaterials, with research achievements widely acclaimed internationally.
In the field of Industrial Engineering and Automation, Professor Tsai-Chi Kuo from the Department of Industrial Management made a remarkable mark, ranking second in Taiwan in the Annual Impact Ranking. His research centers on smart manufacturing and sustainable development, leading over 40 projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology and more than 100 industry–academia collaborations. He has assisted companies such as Delta Electronics and ASE Group in strengthening ESG evaluations and carbon accounting technologies, driving enterprises toward sustainability.
In the Energy field, Chair Professor Bing-Joe Hwang, newly elected as a Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences, ranked fifth in Taiwan in the Annual Impact Ranking. He has long specialized in electrochemistry and energy materials, contributing extensively to the development of nanostructured materials for lithium batteries, fuel cells, and solar cells. With over 500 international publications and more than 43,900 citations, his work has had a profound impact on global battery technology.
Chair Professor Yu-Chung Tsao and Distinguished Professor Fu-Kwun Wang from the Department of Industrial Management focus respectively on intelligent supply chain management and AI applications in smart manufacturing, ranking third and fourth in Taiwan in the Operations Research category. Meanwhile, Distinguished Professor Ching-Hwa Ho from the Graduate Institute of Applied Science and Technology earned fifth place in Taiwan in Applied Physics for his research on two-dimensional chalcogenide semiconductor single-crystal growth and optoelectronic material and device characterization.
This year also saw several professors entering the Career-long Scientific Impact Ranking for the first time, including Professors Cheng-Kang Lee and Ming-Jer Lee (Department of Chemical Engineering), Distinguished Professor Shuo-Yan Chou (Department of Industrial Management), Distinguished Professor Jiann-Liang Chen and Professor Nian-Che Yang (Department of Electrical Engineering), and Professor Song-Jeng Huang (Department of Mechanical Engineering).
The newly listed scholars in the Annual Impact Ranking also delivered remarkable achievements. They include Distinguished Professors Li-Hsien Yeh and Wei-Hung Chiang from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Professor Yu-Qian Zhu from the Department of Information Management, Professor Kai-Lung Hua from the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, Professor Nian-Che Yang from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Chair Professor Jinn P. Chu and Project Assistant Professor Abdullah Hairus from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and Professor Yi-Pei Shih from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. These new entrants represent a wide range of disciplines - chemical engineering, materials, computer science, information management, and mechanical engineering - highlighting Taiwan Tech’s breadth and depth in interdisciplinary research.
Taiwan Tech continues to demonstrate excellence not only in its traditional strengths - electrical and electronic engineering, networking and telecommunications, chemical engineering, and industrial engineering - but also shows strong growth in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, energy, and nanomaterials. Guided by the leadership and experience of senior scholars, the next generation of researchers is steadily building momentum and gaining international recognition. At the same time, Taiwan Tech actively recruits outstanding scholars from both Taiwan and abroad, fostering a diverse, cross-generational, and interdisciplinary academic community. Through this, the university continues to promote global collaboration, strengthen its research foundations, and contribute to technological advancement and social progress worldwide.
