Taiwan Tech emphasizes the importance of student diversity in research publication

One of the key steps in the process of conducting academic research is to publish findings in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, further expanding the reach and impact of those studies. With a growing number of academic journals in circulation, it is crucial for researchers to be strategic about where to publish their work, ensuring that the chosen journal has an appropriate scope and reputation. To this end, citation indexes, such as the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), the Science Citation Index (SCI), and the Art & Humanities Citation Index (AHCI), can serve as a very helpful reference list to identify the most well-regarded journals based on criteria of quality and impact. Every SSCI-indexed paper is subjected to a rigorous review process performed by experts before finally being green-lit for publication.

Taiwan occupies an outsized position in the world of academic research, contributing an average of 37,000 articles to academic journals each year. This is enough to garner Taiwan a spot in the top 20 globally in terms of research output by country. As one of Taiwan’s top-tier universities, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan Tech) itself continues to climb in rankings owing to the increased number of SCI/SSCI/AHCI-indexed papers authored by its students and faculty members.

Taiwan Tech’s leadership believes that diversity on campus can contribute to the university’s status as a leading research institution. The university provides admissions to overseas students from a variety of backgrounds and countries in an effort to foster a more diverse academic environment. Students with a range of distinct backgrounds and a variety of viewpoints often illuminate perspectives that otherwise might not have been considered, a fact that ultimately lifts the quality of the research undertaken at this institution.

International students at Taiwan Tech are supported by a range of programs and resources. Each year, the university awards numerous scholarships to incoming students who have been admitted to one of the many English language programs being offered. During their studies, regularly-held lab meetings provide them with frequent access to their professors as well as giving them a forum for discussing current issues and refining their own research designs.

Publishing a paper in an SSCI-indexed journal can be a formidable task, but the institutional backing for students at Taiwan Tech sets them firmly on a path to achieve this goal. From data collection to final proofreading, the faculty members of Taiwan Tech assist these emerging researchers with their expertise, guidance, and, in some cases, even funding. Long after they have graduated from Taiwan Tech, this invaluable training empowers these scholars as they make continuing contributions to their home countries and the broader academic community.
