A popular a cappella ensemble from Germany, tonalrausch, visited NTUST on October 24. The winner of several international a cappella competitions entertained NTUST audience with jazz as well as some Chinese songs, without any instrumental accompaniment.
A cappella music is a style of singing without instrumental sound. The a cappella group from Germany was founded four years ago. They earned their fame by winning awards from international competitions. They have been awarded the golden diploma of the International A Cappella Competition 2008 in Graz (Austria) in the Pop category and the first prize in the Jazz competition. In 2009, they were awarded by Taiwan International Contemporary A Cappella Festival (TICACF) in the categories of the Best Singer, Arrangement, and Presentation.
President Chen Shi-Shuenn of NTUST said that we invited tonalrausch to the university with a hope to showing our students the beauty of music and how we cherish the nourishment of our souls with art, music and humanity, on a campus of science and technology.
The five members of the music groups are from Leipzig, Berlin and Dresden. They developed into one of the most remarkable groups of their country by creating a new, fresh sound and style. They are good at writing refreshing arrangements and presenting them in unique style. They give each song they perform a new identity and surprise the audience with never heard versions of popular songs.
In addition to performing their best a cappella jazz and Pop songs, they even mimicked instruments with vocal sounds and sang Chinese songs " Cicadas of Autumn " as well as " Kangding Love Song " to impress the audience.
