Paraguayan Minister of Information and Communication Technologies visits Taiwan Tech to learn from industry-academia collaboration experience, promoting closer Taiwan-Paraguay ties.

Taiwan Tech and the friendly nation of Paraguay have had close exchanges and collaborations in the fields of education, science, and technology. Recently, Gustavo Emigdio Villate Samaniego, the Minister of Information and Communication Technologies of Paraguay, led a delegation to visit Taiwan Tech for bilateral discussions and student exchanges. Key topics discussed during the meeting included industry-academia collaboration and scholarships for graduate studies at the Universidad Politecnica Taiwán Paraguay (hereinafter referred to as Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University). President Jia-Yush Yen also actively shared experiences and achievements to promote resource sharing, technology exchange, and talent cultivation.

Minister Samaniego expressed his commitment to developing Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University into a research-oriented university to promote theoretical and practical research and applications among faculty and students, enhancing Paraguay's overall research capabilities. He hopes to draw upon Taiwan Tech's experience in research and enterprise cooperation.

Both Taiwan Tech maintains long-term cooperation relationships with enterprises and enterprises also sponsor relevant research funds. Vice President Jhy-Chern Liu gave examples: in addition to general industry-academia collaboration, Taiwan Tech has established joint research and development centers with multiple companies, providing the industry with forward-looking research, management, and consulting services. The university also receives stable funding from the corporate sector.

Horacio José Caniza Vierci, Advisor to the Minister of Information and Communication Technologies of Paraguay, mentioned that Paraguayan bachelor's degrees mainly focus on basic science and engineering knowledge. Dean Ming-Jyh Chern of the College of Engineering suggested that Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University establish master's and doctoral programs to cultivate more talents. We will recruit more researchers, accelerate the establishment of research centers, and plan industry-academia collaboration research and development projects. They can also utilize international student scholarships for master's and doctoral studies in Taiwan, engage in research, and submit to journals, etc. to enhance talent development capabilities.

Additionally, the delegation met with over 180 Paraguayan students currently studying at Taiwan Tech to share Paraguay's vision for education and technology infrastructure. They gained insight into students' lives in Taiwan and their expectations of the Paraguayan government. Minister Samaniego and Jorge Daniel Duarte Rolón, President of Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University and Economic Advisor to the Presidential Office, explained that Paraguay plans to establish a science and technology digital park in the future and organize a National Science Committee to coordinate research-related work, funding, and talent retention programs. This will bring new opportunities for scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.

Taiwan Tech collaborates with Paraguay, leveraging its rich international research experience to jointly promote educational development and inject vitality into the friendly relations between the two countries. In the future, both sides will continue to deepen cooperation and work together to promote innovation and progress in education and technology.
