Paraguayan Speaker leads delegation to visit Taiwan Tech, actively cooperating to support Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University.

On the afternoon of April 15th, Taiwan Tech welcomed a delegation led by Paraguayan Senate President, Mr. Silvio Adalberto Ovelar Benítez (Excmo. Sr. Silvio Adalberto Ovelar Benítez). In addition to bilateral discussions, the delegation also held talks with students from Universidad Politecnica Taiwán Paraguay (hereinafter referred to as Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University).

President Jia-Yush Yen of Taiwan Tech pointed out that this year marks the sixth year since the establishment of Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University. It will begin to assist in transitioning towards a research-oriented focus. Taiwan Tech, known for its practical expertise, has always maintained close cooperation with the industry. Exchange students from Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University coming to Taiwan Tech not only engage in cutting-edge research but also have the opportunity to connect with outstanding Taiwanese companies.

Speaker Ovelar mentioned that Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University is an extremely important project in Paraguay, receiving long-term support in the parliament's budget. Taiwan Tech is highly reputable in Taiwan, and he expressed gratitude for their assistance to Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University.

Dean Ming-Jyh Chern of the College of Engineering at Taiwan Tech explained that due to the establishment of research centers at Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University, there is a need for a large number of research personnel with master and doctoral degrees. Taiwan Tech encourages students from Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University to continue their studies at Taiwan Tech after graduating. He mentioned that Taiwan Tech has assisted lecturers from countries such as Vietnam and Indonesia in obtaining doctoral degrees, and therefore, lecturers from institutions like the National University of Asuncion in Paraguay are also welcomed to pursue higher degrees at Taiwan Tech.

During the discussion between the delegation and students from Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University, the students expressed their satisfaction with the quality of life in Taiwan. They mentioned that Taiwan Tech laboratories are well-equipped, professors are friendly, professional, and passionate about teaching, and scholarships are provided to Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University students to participate in international science competitions in countries like Singapore and Japan.

Speaker Ovelar told students that Taiwan is a solid development partner of Paraguay and will continue to assist in the development of Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University. He will also strive for internship opportunities in Taiwan to enhance students' practical experience.

The Second Vice President of the Paraguayan Senate, Hermelinda Alvarenga de Ortega (Hon. Sra. Hermelinda Alvarenga de Ortega), highly praised the Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University students for breaking out of their comfort zones to study in Taiwan. She encouraged them to return to Paraguay upon completing their studies, becoming teachers and researchers much needed for Paraguay's economic development, and to contribute their learning experiences from Taiwan.
