On November 16, Taiwan Tech hosted a reunion for alumni celebrating 30 and 40 years since graduation. Over 300 alumni and faculty gathered for a warm and lively event. The day was organized around four key themes: admission, campus life, and graduation, allowing alumni to relive the joy of passing the entrance exam, the excitement of the first class, the emotion of graduation photos, and the gratitude shared with their beloved professors.

On the morning of the event, alumni from all over gathered at Taiwan Tech. The first thing that caught their eye was the list of students admitted to the “National Taiwan Institute of Technology” from back in the day. This brought back memories of the hard work and passion they had put into gaining entry to Taiwan’s only higher technical education institution. Alumni eagerly searched for their names on the list, excitedly taking photos to relive the glory and joy of that moment.

As they walked through a “memory hallway” made up of old photos, many were reminded of precious moments spent with classmates during their student years. The event also thoughtfully provided graduation robes, allowing alumni to experience the emotional significance of wearing their academic regalia once again.

Later, alumni returned to their respective departments to revisit the scenes of their first classes. Department chairs introduced recent developments at the university and highlighted the latest achievements in technology research and education. Many alumni actively shared their personal career experiences and current updates, fostering lively interactions between faculty and students.

President Jia-Yush Yen expressed special gratitude for the long-term support of Taiwan Tech alumni, which has enabled the university to continue its steady development. Alumni Association Chairman Jianwei Chen also remarked that over the past 50 years, from the Taiwan Institute of Industrial Technology to today’s Taiwan Tech, the journey has been both challenging and solid. Taiwan Tech has trained numerous problem solvers for Taiwan’s technical industries, and the contributions of its alumni have become the cornerstone and pillar of various industries. The “Thank You” banquet began joyfully after alumni united in wishing the university a happy 50th anniversary.

In his speech, Alumni Association Chairperson and Industrial Management alumnus Jindi Wu humorously said, “40 years ago, looking at the list was nerve-wracking, but today, it’s much more relaxed because I know I’ll definitely find my name”. He expressed pride in Taiwan Tech’s growth over the years, noting that the expansion of the Zhubei and Huaxia campuses has provided a solid foundation for the university’s future development. Seeing Taiwan Tech’s progress and achievements made him proud, and he encouraged current students to continue striving for excellence and to create even greater heights for Taiwan Tech.

He mentioned that it was a rare and memorable experience to reunite after so many years, and throughout the event, the enthusiasm and thoughtful planning of the staff were deeply appreciated, creating unforgettable memories.

An-Zhou Xia, the class representative of the Department of Chemical Engineering, also thanked the faculty, staff, Alumni Association, and department offices for their full support in organizing the reunion. He noted that the event not only allowed classmates from different regions to reconnect after 30 years, but also helped strengthen their bonds and lay the foundation for future communication. De-Li Lu, the class representative of the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, expressed hope that such meaningful events would continue in the future to further unite the alumni community.

In addition to the alumni, nearly 30 former faculty members attended, including former President Xi-Shun Chen and former Vice Presidents Yun-Hong Peng, Xian-Heng Li, Yi-Xu Zhu, and Day-Yang Liu. The reunion was an opportunity to rekindle the teacher-student bond, and many alumni took photos with their mentors, preserving these precious moments. The event ended on a joyful and heartfelt note, with alumni bidding each other farewell and looking forward to reuniting again at the 50th-anniversary celebration in March next year.
