Groundbreaking Ceremony at Taiwan Tech Hsinchu Campus - Another Milestone for Internationalization

The groundbreaking ceremony for the extension of Taiwan Tech's new Hsinchu Campus took place on May 13th, 2020, four years after our university had decided to open a new branch campus in Hsinchu, about 70 km northwest of Taipei. 
 
Two new buildings, the International College Building and the Advanced Industrial Cooperation Building will be constructed on the Taiwan Tech Hsinchu campus. The project, which was delayed by a complicated tendering process and other administrative obstacles, will be completed by June 2022, President Liao Ching-jong said.
 
“This is an important milestone in Taiwan Tech's internationalization process", Liao explained, “The International College will offer an all-English teaching environment and a foundation-year in liberal arts which will be attractive for international students.” 
 
Hsinchu County – which already hosts one of Taiwan's highly successful science parks - and the nearby town of Zhubei are also expected to benefit from the new Taiwan Tech campus, as several local government officials pointed out in their speeches. “We are looking forward to welcoming international students and professors,” said Hsinchu County Magistrate Yang Wen-ke, “and we believe that Taiwan Tech's reputation in industry-university cooperation will boost the economic development in our area.”
 
The overall project investment totals about $500 million. The Advanced Industrial Cooperation Building, expected to be completed in May 2021, will host the Industry 4.0 Centre and the New Thin Film Materials Research Centre. The International College Building is planned as a 6-story clubhouse-style building with a cafeteria, classrooms, reading rooms, offices, and dormitories which is envisioned to become a joint learning and living space for local and international students.
